Beach Volleyball

Introduction

At NET Beach Hall, there are 6 sand courts on the first floor. Beach volleyball is played on a sand court that is slightly smaller than a standard indoor volleyball court, in teams of two.
Beach volleyball differs from indoor volleyball in some of the rules, and a lighter ball is used when playing on sand and outdoors. In competition format, beach volleyball is played two against two, but recreational players often play in teams of three or four as well. The lighter ball makes the sport more accessible for beginners who may not enjoy indoor volleyball as much. Players can also adjust the net height to suit their needs.
Matches are typically played as best of three sets: the first two sets to 21 points and the third set to 15 points (with a required two-point difference). For more detailed rules, please visit the website of the Estonian Volleyball Federation.

Tournaments

Student Tournament

The student volleyball tournament will still take place on April 17 at 18:00!
NB! Registration ends on Thursday 23:59!

  • The student tournament is divided into two skill groups: advanced and recreational. The advanced tournament is intended for students with a volleyball background who feel comfortable playing according to beach volleyball rules. The recreational tournament is open to students whose experience with volleyball is limited to school physical education classes, active beach holidays, and/or student beach volleyball training sessions. Recreational players are also allowed to receive serves with an overhead pass.
  • Teams compete in 3 vs 3 for recreational players and 2 vs 2 for advanced players, with separate women’s and men’s categories. You can also register individually if you don’t have a partner – we will help you find one!
  • The tournament starts with group-stage matches, after which pairs are divided into skill groups based on their group-stage results. In both the initial groups and later skill groups, all pairs play each other. A win awards 3 points and a loss 1 point. If two pairs are tied on points, the head-to-head result determines the ranking. If three or more pairs are tied, the ranking is first decided by set ratio and, if needed, by point ratio.
Results in the skill groups determine the final overall standings of the tournament.
  • In both the group stage and placement matches, two set wins are required to win a match. If necessary, a deciding third set is played. The length of the sets depends on the number of registered pairs and may vary from tournament to tournament. The exact set length will be confirmed before each tournament.
  • By registering, you confirm that you are a university student and are prepared to verify your student status before the tournament using an ISIC card or by logging into ÕIS.
  • At both tournaments, the best pair in each competition category will be awarded. In addition, raffle prize winners will be drawn among all participants.

Sunday Volley

NET Sports Hall invites recreational players to join the tournament! Women’s, men’s and mixed pairs are all welcome, as well as youth categories U-14, U-16, U-18, and U-20. See dates below.

Instructions:

The length of the sets depends on the number of registered pairs and may vary from tournament to tournament. The exact set length will be confirmed before each tournament.
  • At each tournament, the top three pairs will be awarded. A season-long ranking is also maintained – points earned at each tournament contribute to the overall standings. Points are awarded per stage as follows: 1st place – 5 points, 2nd place – 4 points, 3rd place – 3 points, 4th place – 2 points, and all remaining pairs from 5th place onwards receive 1 point. After the final stage, the overall season winner will be awarded separately.
  • Overall ranking points are earned on a team basis, not individually. For example, if a player wins one tournament and then changes partners and wins another tournament with a new partner, the player does not receive a total of 10 points in the overall standings. Instead, the player competes as two different pairs in the overall ranking, and each pair earns its own separate total of 5 points.
